The beginning of the holiday season is fast approaching.  Thankfully (!) I’m busy at work . . . and so am only slightly distracted by thoughts of mashed potatoes, turkey & pumpkin pie . . . and cranberry sauce, a nice Cabernet and sitting by the fire . . . So, yes, I’m in favor of this Thursday and all that follows.

To that end, a quick and easy activity to liven up your events and keep everyone (and their drinks!) organized.  Raise your glass to these DIY wine tags: [Read more...]

Stacie and I got our hands dirty and glitzy making sparkly pumpkin candle holders.  Super easy and pretty darn cheap, these beauties are perfect for a Thanksgiving feast.

What you need:

  • mini pumpkins
  • spray adhesive OR Elmer’s glue mixed with a bit of water and painted on with a brush
  • glitter (we used Martha Stewart’s)

Wine Table Wednesday: Treveri

Wine Table Wednesday: Treveri

Recently, Stacie and I spent a day getting creative and covering ourselves in glitter and glue.  Some of the results are below, including the cocktail we rewarded ourselves with in the (late . . . mid?) afternoon.

Some ideas for our Thanksgiving tables in gold, bronze and orange hues:

  • Glitter pumpkin candles (learn how to make them)
  • Soft gold tablecloth
  • Part of an old Champagne crate–used as a trivet
  • Antique candle holders
  • Clear glass vases with fall foliage
  • You’ll have to use your imagination for the food:  I’m dreaming of a giant turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce & pumpkin pie
  • Treveri sparkling wine (see cranberry lime cocktail below)

Stacie and I have written about Treveri many times, not only because they make festive sparkling wines, but because they are constantly creating wonderful experiences.  Whether you visit their tasting rooms for events or just to sample the selection, each visit is an occasion.  And that makes Treveri’s wines perfect for November’s special day.

This post is part of the Pinterest Challenge posted here, here, here, & here. Click through to check out AMAZING projects submitted by people from all over blog-land. Stacie will be back tomorrow to share some her favorites out of the bunch.

My fun friend Allison posted a great plate project on .  The original project calls for a porcelain 150 pen that allows you to write on a plate (or other dinnerware) and then bake it.  I was a little short on time and couldn’t find the porcelain pen, but I did find these Painty Pens that can be used on porcelain.  The drawbacks are that they have a medium tip (instead of my preferred fine tip) and I could only decorate the rim as food cannot be served on top of the inked areas.  The ink is permanent, though, so it should hold up to washing.  If you’re concerned about writing in straight lines, use a bit of painter’s tape to keep you even.
