Entryway Table Before & After

Entryway Table Before & After

When we bought our first house in the Seattle area back in 1999, we did what a lot of young couples do-we bought what furniture we could afford from IKEA, Target, thrift stores and off of Craigslist.

I have had this Target entryway table since then. It has moved with us four times. Each time I hesitated to move it because it’s not a quality piece. But I drug it along anyway.  After four moves it had too many dents, dings and scratches to count.

It has sat lonely in our entryway since we moved to our current rental last spring. I couldn’t ignore it any longer and decided to give it new life.

I started by lightly sanding the table with a medium-grit sanding block. Kendall is always ready and willing to help with projects. She’s my girl!

I painted a coat of primer, let it dry overnight and then sanded it lightly again with a fine-grit sanding block.

I bought a quart of Glidden interior paint in Satin and had it color matched to Martha Stewart’s “Sunken Pool”-the perfect robin’s egg blue. I like using the small, smooth foam rollers for furniture. I used foam brushes to paint the edges and crevices and then went over the entire thing with the roller. I painted two coats.

I chose simple acrylic knobs to lighten things up even more.

I love the way it turned out. It’s so much lighter and brighter in our entryway. The next step is to put something up on the wall behind the table now that our Christmas display is packed away for another year. I found a great petite, gold mirror at Salvation Army yesterday as inspiration. Stay tuned…

    • Thanks Dayna. I love the knobs too. I thought about doing a coral color, which I think would love great as well, but the acrylic ones were cheap and easy. :)

    Stacie–
LOVE IT!! I am KNEE DEEP in about 10 of these kind of projects right now with the help of my neighbor! It’s so fun to see the transformation. I will send you a couple of pics. Also, I found this super fun website and I get ideas from there. I want to start checking out old furniture at yard sales and maybe selling them after they are re-done. http://www.junkyardpainting.com
