Flower Pots with Chalkboard Paint

Flower Pots with Chalkboard Paint

I had these two flower pots which were great for summer but not so great for fall. I picked up some chalkboard spray paint and gave them a little facelift.

I used small paper cups to elevate the pots so that they didn’t stick to the paper.

I applied two coats of paint to the entire outside of the pot. When I turned it over it looked like this. It would have been perfect if the inside had been orange.

So I sprayed just the top part of the inside, the part not covered by plants and soil.

I then let the pots dry overnight. Once they were completely dry I broke-in the surface as you have to do with any new chalkboard. Breaking-in the surface is done by rubbing the entire area with the side of the chalk and then erasing the surface. I did it twice in some spots because the chalk wasn’t going on very smoothly.

Next the girls and I added some bling. We brushed on a thin layer of Elmer’s glue and sprinkled with Martha Stewart’s glitter in Bronze.

We drew and wrote on the pots.

“Beware” scrawled backwards by Kendall because that’s really spooky. :)

And finally we planted our fall/winter plants and flowers.

It will be fun to change them out this spring. But in the meantime I am enjoying my new fall planters.
