A few months back, we got an email from Nicole Murphy, a Yakima Valley resident and Hometown Perch reader, inviting us to come and tour her home and garden. Recently, Stacie and I took Nicole up on her offer and enjoyed a sunny afternoon in her back yard.
One of our first greeters was Bailey, the family dog. Anyone who knows me, knows I love dogs and Bailey is a particularly sweet, kindred-spirit kind of dog. She and Nicole made us feel instantly at home.

We entered the garden through a cheerful yellow door and I was drawn in by the many vines growing up most available walls and trellises:
As well as the many vibrant spring blooms:
Bailey, a most excellent tour guide, led us up to the vegetable garden:
Many of the garden’s plants get a protected start here once they are established seedlings:
The garden also features homey places to sit and relax. We did just that as we enjoyed strawberries, asparagus, deviled eggs and white wine.
Nicole is not only an avid gardener, she is also very artistic and sells her vintage finds and creations from her Etsy shop viAnneli. Here is one of the beautiful quilts she crafted from vintage fabrics:
A huge ‘thank you’ to Nicole and Ryan for graciously opening their home (and garden!).

Are the orange flowers just tulips that have really opened up or are they something else? They’re really cool looking! And Bailey is darling, of course!
Emily, the orange is a pointy tulip called Ballerina
Thanks for the info, Nicole!
Love the pointy tulip! I thought those were some sort of lily.
Wonderful space! I love the blue chairs, so cute.
